TandaBuilder updates — Release tracker

Tracking new features and improvements for tango DJs.

🌟 About TandaBuilder

TandaBuilder is a professional macOS application built for Argentine tango DJs. It blends reliability, polish, and total control over your music so you can run your milongas with complete peace of mind.

🎧 One goal: make every tanda perfect.
✨ New feature 📂 Library 🎧 Playback 🐛 Fix

📂 Version 26.7.4 — Unified duplicates, Live/Preview audio, enrichment (July 2026)

July 9, 2026

Unified duplicate search

Same service and interface in "Find Duplicates", the enrichment review, and the Smart Assistant, with a side-by-side comparison view.

Independent Live and Preview

On a Scarlett (Live 1-2, headphones 5-6), the two players no longer overwrite each other's device.

More reliable enrichment

A folder like "Di Sarli / 1940 - …" now feeds the orchestra on import; already-imported tracks can be repaired retroactively. When the orchestra is a folder or album name, enrichment tries the year before giving up.

Pro fixes and stability

Library menu buttons (statistics, duplicates, find/replace) work again in Pro. Faster startup, SwiftData thumbnail crash fixed, duplicate notifications ignored.

✨ New feature 🌐 Community 📂 Library 🔧 Fix

📂 Version 26.7.3 — Library: repaired orchestras and tracks found again (July 2026)

July 7, 2026

Repair orchestra from the community database (Pro)

When a track has a wrong orchestra and no local information can fix it, TandaBuilder can identify it from its audio fingerprint and suggest the orchestra name validated by the community database, with a confidence level and preview before applying.

Multi-select with the mouse

In the "Enrichment Review" window, click, ⌘+click, and ⇧+click to select hundreds of suggestions at once, just like in the Finder.

Missing tracks finally imported

Some files never appeared after "Update Library" because of a quarantine flag the scan could not remove. The scan now clears this flag and imports those tracks.

Stability

Stability fixes and App Store alignment to deliver these library improvements to all users.

✨ New feature 🌐 Community 📂 Library 🐛 Fix

📂 Version 26.7.2 — Library: tracks found again, orchestras repaired, faster sorting (July 2026)

July 5, 2026

Repair a track's orchestra (Pro)

First delivery of orchestra repair via the community database and the "Complete via community database" button in the column repair window.

Select multiple suggestions with the mouse

The enrichment review adopts Finder-style selection (click, ⌘+click, ⇧+click) to accept or ignore whole batches of suggestions.

Missing tracks imported

The scan removes the quarantine flag macOS applies to files written by the app, instead of silently skipping them.

Pro fix

The "Edit Metadata" window on multi-selection works again in the Pro version.

✨ New feature 🎧 Playback 🐛 Fix

🎧 Version 26.7.1 — Listen to your tandas without leaving the tab (July 2026)

July 4, 2026

Built-in player in Práctica and AI Suggestion

The Práctica and Suggestion tabs showed a tanda but did not let you listen on the spot. You can now play it directly: a preview button per track, and a full transport bar above the list (continuous playback of the whole playlist, tandas and cortinas in order, previous/next, scrub bar, automatic chaining).

Listen to the AI-suggested tanda

In the Suggestion tab, each track plays in full if you own it, otherwise as a 30-second public excerpt. The scrub bar lets you jump to the end of a title to judge the transition with the next one, without leaving the screen.

Fix

A possible crash when playing a generated tanda is fixed.

🔧 Fix 📂 Library 🛡️ Reliability

🛡️ Version 26.7.0 — File integrity and library backup (July 2026)

July 3, 2026

Audio files protected when rewriting tags

AAC to M4A conversion is now safer: the original file is deleted only if tag rewriting succeeds. OGG files remain readable after metadata changes (no more corruption on write). Writing a single field (title, orchestra, singer...) no longer removes other tags already present in the file (FLAC, OGG, MP3).

Library backup and restore

Automatic library backup finally works. Backup copies are listed in Settings → Library Repair and can be restored in one click. The "overwrite only if empty" option is now strictly respected, and batch writes clearly indicate which files were skipped.

✨ New feature 🌐 Community ⚡ Performance 🐛 Fix

✨ Version 26.6.2 — AI tanda refinement (Pro) and more coherent tandas (June 2026)

June 30, 2026

New (Pro): AI-powered tanda refinement

The Pro generator first builds the tanda from your local library (deterministic engine, free, unchanged), then automatically refines it with AI: tracks are reordered for a better energy progression, with an explanation of the choice shown in a "Refined by AI" panel. Only metadata (title, orchestra, singer, year, genre, score) is sent, never your audio files or your full library. If the AI is unavailable, the deterministic order is kept with no interruption.

More coherent tandas (App Store + Pro)

Track ranking now factors in tonal harmony (the Camelot wheel), and the Práctica generator uses the same musicalization engine as tanda suggestion, with recognition extended to 127 orchestras (up from 25). Result: fewer jarring transitions, better flow, and more relevant suggestions for libraries rich in less common orchestras (De Caro, Piazzolla, Color Tango, Gardel, Salgán, Mores...).

More robust Práctica

Generating a Práctica session no longer gets blocked by an unbalanced library (for example, lots of tangos but few valses): an insufficient genre is simply skipped and flagged instead of blocking everything. Error messages are replaced with a clear banner, and every generated tanda now shows the detail of its tracks (title, orchestra, singer, year, BPM, duration).

Fixes

The year of recent MP3s (ID3v2.4 tag) is correctly read again on import; duplicate detection during enrichment, which was silently broken, is re-enabled; the enrichment preview and import are smoother on large libraries; the tree-view preview marker is clearer; a SwiftData crash during library updates is fixed; unavailable tracks (disconnected volume) now stay visible by default with a warning banner instead of silently disappearing; the "TandaBuilder Pro" name now displays correctly everywhere (Finder, Dock, menu, welcome window).

🐛 Fix 🌐 Community 🔒 Reliability

🔧 Version 26.6.1 — Community catalog and Pro AI reactivated (June 2026)

June 25, 2026

Online Pro features working again

Following a server-side authentication migration, the online community catalog and AI tanda suggestions (Pro) had stopped working and were silently falling back to other sources. Fixed: both Pro features are fully operational again. No impact for App Store users, as these features are Pro-only.

Licenses activated before late June

If the community catalog stays silent after updating, a quick visit to TandaBuilder Pro > Manage My License is enough to refresh access.

🌐 Localization ✨ New feature 🔒 Reliability

🌐 Version 26.6.0 — App translated into 29 languages (June 2026)

June 5, 2026

Full localization

The interface, the Pro purchase flow and system messages are now available in 29 languages. Plurals follow each language's rules, and the tango vocabulary (tanda, milonga, vals, cortina, orquesta) stays intact.

Anonymous, opt-out statistics

A new anonymous, opt-out usage-statistics setting helps prioritize improvements: no personal data, hosted in Europe.

Stability

Fixed a crash when opening the TBtubeWarmth effect settings, and hardened the settings window.

🐛 Fix ⚡ Performance 🔒 Reliability

🔧 Version 26.5.9 — Hardened startup on large libraries (May 2026)

May 30, 2026

No more startup freeze

Fixed a possible freeze at launch (spinning wheel) on very large libraries, introduced in 26.5.8.

Background scan

Watched-folder scanning now runs in the background, without blocking the interface at startup.

🔄 Workflow ✨ New feature ⚡ Performance

✨ Version 26.5.8 — Assisted milonga preparation (May 2026)

May 22, 2026

New "Prepare a milonga" workflow

A new Prepare a milonga menu (shortcut ⌘⇧M) triggers a full pre-set checklist: the smart orchestrator chains the checks in the right order automatically, no manual intervention needed.

Extended PreFlight view, three categories

The verification screen now covers three axes: audio (devices, latency), library (BPM coverage, fingerprints, keys), and system (battery, disk space, network). TandaBuilder detects the "pre-milonga" context automatically and runs the check without prompting.

Internal hygiene

Shazam DRM logs trimmed (less console noise) and a SwiftData startup warning ("Unbinding from main queue") eliminated.

⚡ Performance 🌐 Community 🔒 Reliability 🐛 Fix

🔧 Version 26.5.7 — Background services auto-pause & Community Catalog unlocked (May 2026)

May 16, 2026

Background services auto-pause

A new UserActivityMonitor service watches your clicks, mouse movements, scrolling, and keyboard activity. While you interact with the app (and during the 30 seconds that follow), Chromaprint, Automatch enrichment, and SmartOrchestrator analysis tasks pause automatically. No more CPU contention while you work. They resume on their own as soon as you go idle. The manual ⌃⌥P toggle from 26.5.6 remains as a permanent override for demos.

Community Catalog unlocked for older Pro licenses

Pro licenses activated before May 8, 2026 could not obtain a JWT to open the Community Catalog. The online Pro validation now automatically rebuilds the Keychain entry with the required license key: Catalog access is restored with no action on your part, on the next online validate.

🎨 Interface 🌐 Community 🔒 Reliability 🔧 Improvement

🔧 Version 26.5.6 — UX polish, HTTP hygiene & Community Catalog integration (May 2026)

May 15, 2026

Community Catalog finally accessible natively

The Library > Community Catalog menu (⇧⌘K) now opens a dedicated in-app window with live search and audio playback in Pro mode, teaser version in App Store mode. No more detour through the browser.

Automatic updates on by default (Pro)

Sparkle now checks for new versions every hour on new Pro installs. No more risk of getting stuck on a buggy version if you forget to enable auto-check.

HUD for panel shortcuts

The ⌥⌘B/P/L shortcuts now display an ephemeral HUD (1.2 s) at the top-center of the window confirming which panel was activated (Library, Pre-listen, Live), matching macOS standard cues.

No more toast spam when unmounting a drive

When you unmount an external drive while TandaBuilder is validating your tracks, you now receive a single aggregated toast with the total count instead of N successive alerts flooding the UI.

Performance Mode robust across displays

On a multi-display DJ setup, the main window now stays on its original display when you toggle players between floating and docked.

⚡ Performance 🎧 Audio 🐛 Fix

🔧 Version 26.5.5 — Background analysis rework (May 2026)

May 12, 2026

No more beachballs during duplicate detection

The duplicate finder has been fully reworked into hash buckets running off the main thread. On a 4,333-track library, the scan now completes in under 3 seconds (vs. several minutes before) and the UI stays responsive throughout.

No more beachballs during BPM and key analysis

BPM and key analysis now run on a new dedicated AudioAnalysisActor. Audio decoding, FFT, and autocorrelation all run off the main thread. No more UI lockups after a night of autoplay enrichment.

Correct percentage formatting in every language

Percentages shown in Practica playlists now use macOS native localized formatting, correct across the 28 supported locales.

Main window always big enough

The main window can no longer be accidentally shrunk below 1200×800 pixels: players and panels always stay visible.

🔒 Reliability 📂 Library 🐛 Fix

🔧 Version 26.5.4 — Demo audit fix batch (May 2026)

May 10, 2026

Pro in-app updates via Sparkle restored

A server-side configuration was preventing automatic updates from working for 26.5.3: this is fixed, Sparkle once again downloads new Pro versions directly from within the app.

Community-database search restored

The "Search the community database" button in Preferences and the Automatch pipeline relied on a snapshot file that was no longer shipped: the migration to the modern embedded database is complete, search works again.

Faster enrichment

Spotify removed its audio-features endpoint for developer-mode accounts, causing 5+ second timeouts per enriched track. The app now skips the futile call: enrichment is noticeably faster.

🌐 Community 🔒 Reliability 🔧 Improvement

🔧 Version 26.5.3 — App Store + Pro release prep (May 2026)

May 9, 2026

Pro activation & Community Catalog hardened

Pro activation now correctly persists the license key and machine fingerprint needed to mint a Community Catalog access token. A valid Pro license grants access to Pro endpoints without depending on an app state that was never initialized.

Aligned URLs and public terms

Public price moves to €44.99, the free trial is aligned to 14 days everywhere, and internal URLs point at the actually-deployed license service. Stripe webhooks are hardened against duplicate activations.

Hardened Pro publication pipeline

The Pro publication script now fails loudly if a Cloudflare variable is missing (instead of silently uploading to a wrong location) and the Sparkle appcast uses the current API.

🎧 Audio ⚡ Performance

🔧 Version 26.5.2 — Audio engine internal optimization (May 2026)

May 7, 2026

Audio engine optimization patch: internal cleanup of logging paths in the Live and Prelisten modules to reduce CPU load in production. No user-visible functional change.

🎧 Audio 🌐 Network 🔒 Reliability 🐛 Fix

🔧 Version 26.5.1 — Audio stability & silent fixes (May 2026)

May 4, 2026

Audio stability in live playback

Critical real-time audio paths reworked to reduce glitch risks during milongas: render callback allocations eliminated, TubeWarmth DSP isolated between Live and Prelisten, UserDefaults reads removed from the audio thread.

More responsive online search

Network request timeout reduced to 15 seconds (down from 60). No more frozen UI when an external service (Spotify, MusicBrainz, AcoustID, ShazamKit) hangs.

Library opening history persistence

Library opening history (date, version used) is now correctly preserved across sessions. App Store ↔ Pro migration context is retained.

Schema migration v17 (preparatory)

New database field for pending enrichment suggestions, preparing the upcoming auto-validation feature.

Pro license activation fixed

Silent activation bug fixed for Pro users who encountered the "Unable to read data because it isn't in the correct format" error.

Internationalization

36 new French translations for the community catalog and library setup.

📂 Library 🌐 Community ✨ New feature 🔒 Reliability

✨ Version 26.5 — Shared library & community catalog (May 2026)

May 2026

Shared library between TandaBuilder and TandaBuilder Pro

Your music library now lives in a single, Finder-visible folder: ~/Music/TandaBuilder/Library/. Install both versions side by side — they share the same database, nothing to re-import, no data lost when upgrading from App Store to Pro. An exclusive lock guarantees that only one version opens the library at a time.

Opt-in migration with explicit consent

On first launch of 26.5, TandaBuilder detects your existing library and asks your permission before moving anything. Three choices: migrate now, decide later, or never ask again. No forced migration — the app waits for your answer.

Automatic daily backups

Every day, TandaBuilder archives your compressed database in ~/Music/TandaBuilder/.backups/ (7-day rolling window). A new "Repair library" window (in Preferences) restores any backup in a single click.

Tamper protection

The database file is marked "Locked" in Finder to prevent accidental deletion. An integrity monitor (SHA-256 + FSEvents) detects any external modification. Cloud-synced locations (iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive) are refused: they corrupt SwiftData.

Community tango catalog

New "Catalog" section in the app, connected to the Aïda database (El-Recodo enriched with Shazam keys and AcoustID fingerprints). App Store version: free teaser — 10 results per page, 50 total. Pro version: full catalog access with streaming playback of recordings for comparison and identification.

14-day Pro trial everywhere

Trial duration now clearly stated as "14 days" across all translations.

🔧 Improvement 🐛 Bugfix 🎨 Interface 🔄 Workflow

🔧 Version 26.4.1 — Directional drag & drop & fixes (April 2026)

April 2026

Directional drag & drop

Drag tracks from the library directly to the Live or Pre-listen player. The drop zone automatically detects which panel you're targeting based on cursor position.

Tempo slider & live BPM

The tempo slider now spans the full width of the options popover, with real-time BPM display above the bar during playback.

Spotify enrichment fixed

Fixed the Spotify token service URL: search and enrichment via Spotify are working again.

Full localisation

The entire interface is now localised in 30 languages, split into 9 catalogues by domain.

Crash fixes

Several crashes reported via TestFlight have been fixed (AttributeGraph, enrichment, large library sorting, Practica-to-Live send).

✨ New feature 📂 Library 🎨 Interface

✨ Version 26.4 — Enrichment UX (March 2026)

March 2026

Suggestion badge & global review

New workflow for enrichment suggestions: ✨ badge on album art, 1-click resolution popover (current vs suggested comparison, pre-listen), global review view with shortcuts ⌘+Return / ⌘+Delete.

30 languages

Full app localisation (no more hardcoded strings), split into 9 catalogues by domain for faster builds.

Player Options popovers

Cleaner UI: removed redundant "Audio output" label, tempo slider full width with min/max range under the bar and live BPM display in the center, Protection toggle green/grey.

Adding a track to pre-listen via context menu no longer adds it twice. Centralised observation and stronger deduplication.

⚡ Version 1.9.12 — Automatic Loudness Normalisation (EBU R128)

November 2025

✨ Major Feature: Automatic Consistent Volume

🎚️ Professional Loudness Normalisation

GAME CHANGER FOR DJS: TandaBuilder now evens out the level of every track for a perfectly consistent listening experience.

🎯 Problem solved

NO MORE MANUAL GAIN RIDES: stop raising or lowering the volume between every song.

  • Classic issue: vintage recordings are too quiet, remasters are too loud.
  • Automatic fix: TandaBuilder analyses each track and adjusts the gain for you.
  • Result: uniform loudness across your whole library, whatever the source.

✨ Key capabilities

📊 Automatic volume analysis

SMART DETECTION: measurements follow the professional EBU R128 standard.

  • During scans: option to analyse every newly imported track.
  • On demand: run the analysis on any selection whenever you like.
  • Visual indicator: see the applied gain inside the Live and Pre-listen decks.
  • Clear display: “+2.5 dB” or “-1.2 dB” so you instantly understand the adjustment.
🎛️ Two normalisation modes

“Only-Up” mode (recommended for vintage sources)

  • Principle: never turn tracks down, only boost the quiet ones.
  • Benefit: preserves the integrity of historical recordings.
  • Limit: up to +12 dB boost to avoid distortion.
  • Best for: golden-age tango collections and archive transfers.

“Down limited” mode (strict alignment)

  • Principle: gain can go up or down.
  • Benefit: even tighter loudness matching between tracks.
  • Limits: boosts up to +12 dB, cuts down to -3 dB.
  • Best for: mixed libraries with very different masters.
⚙️ Simple configuration

Preferences → Loudness normalisation

  • Enable analysis: auto-scan every import.
  • Select the mode: Only-Up or Down limited.
  • Target loudness: default -18 LUFS (DJ reference).
  • Custom limits: fine-tune max boost/cut if needed.
🎵 Automatic application

During playback

  • Transparent gain: applied as soon as the deck loads the track.
  • Zero effort: runs in the background.
  • Visible indicator: gain value shown in the decks.
  • Off switch: disable normalisation whenever you prefer the raw level.

🚀 Real benefits for DJs

🎯 Better live experience
  • No surprises: goodbye to tracks jumping in too loud or too soft.
  • Fluid tandas: consistent energy across every transition.
  • Comfort: dancers enjoy the steady volume.
  • Professional polish: broadcast-level output.
⏱️ Time saver
  • Less tweaking: no more constant volume moves.
  • Prep once: analyse your library and benefit forever.
  • Focus: spend time on music selection, not gain staging.
🎚️ Full flexibility
  • Mode Off: keep manual control if you prefer.
  • Selective analysis: run it only on chosen tracks.
  • Re-run easily: recompute when you change your settings.
  • Format agnostic: MP3, FLAC, M4A, WAV, etc.
🛡️ Audio protection
  • Anti-clipping: prevents saturation automatically.
  • Respect originals: Only-Up mode keeps archival dynamics.
  • Smart limits: blocks extreme adjustments.

📊 Concrete example

Typical scenario

  1. 1940 tango: quiet (-25 LUFS) → boosted by +7 dB.
  2. Modern remaster: loud (-15 LUFS) → trimmed by -3 dB (Down limited mode).
  3. Outcome: both now sit at -18 LUFS perceived loudness.
  4. On stage: seamless transition with zero manual action.

💡 Usage tips

  • Getting started: enable scan-time analysis and pick Only-Up.
  • Mixed libraries: choose Down limited for strict alignment.
  • Purists: keep the mode Off to preserve the original gain.
  • Visual aid: keep the gain indicator enabled to understand the changes.

⚡ Version 1.9.11 — Better copy/paste in every text field

November 2025

✨ Metadata editing refinements

📋 Copy/paste works everywhere

UX IMPROVEMENT: clipboard actions are now reliable in every editable field.

  • Library grid: copy or paste text directly inside inline cells.
    • Select text then use Cmd+C to copy.
    • Paste with Cmd+V in any editable field.
    • Cmd+X to cut, Cmd+A to select all.
    • Full support for macOS native shortcuts.
  • Edit panels: same comfort across individual and batch editors.
    • Single-track side panel.
    • Multi-track batch editor window.
    • Every text component honours the macOS clipboard.

🎯 Auto-updated search fields

UX BOOST: enrichment search inputs refresh themselves whenever metadata is applied.

  • After Shazam: newly applied title/artist instantly populates the fields.
  • After Spotify: identical behaviour for Spotify data.
  • After TandaBuilder: community suggestions sync right away.
  • After file-name parsing: extracted metadata updates the inputs instantly.
